Remote and Hybrid Pay in India 2026: The Bangalore Discount Is Back
Some “remote” roles are metro-pegged. Some quietly haircut 10–15% if you will not badge in.
Hybrid won. Fully remote did not die. Compensation got less honest about both.
In 2026 I see three patterns:
- Metro peg, live anywhere. Best deal if you already left Bangalore. Rare at captives; more common at product startups that lost the office war.
- Location-adjusted remote. 10–15% off the Bangalore band if your pin code is Pune or Kochi. Legal. Still a negotiation, not a law of physics.
- Hybrid in name. Three days in Whitefield, Bangalore pay, Bangalore traffic. Price the commute as a cut in effective hourly wage.
City multipliers (Bangalore still ~15–30% over Pune at senior product/GCC roles) exist because hiring managers still believe proximity. Tier-2 GCC growth is the counter-trend: captives will pay *almost* metro for scarce AI/cyber if you sit in their new office.
