Is 20 LPA a Good Salary in India in 2026?

It depends on city, bonus, and whether you are the person TeamLease is talking about

₹20 LPA is a good salary for a lot of Indian tech careers in 2026. It is not a flex if you are a specialised senior in Bengaluru at a GCC.

TeamLease’s August read is the context: people above ₹20 LPA are seeing hike percentages nearer 18%, while broad roles below that cluster around 6–7%. Crossing ₹20 Lakh is not just a lifestyle jump. It is often the line where your employer starts treating you like retention-risk instead of a cost line.

Still ask three questions before you celebrate:

  1. How much of the 20 is bonus? If 15% is variable inside CTC, monthly cash is a mid-teens job with a hope attached.
  2. Which city? ₹20 LPA in Jaipur or a tier-2 GCC satellite stretches further than ₹20 LPA in Koramangala with a commute and rent.
  3. Which peer set? Versus IT services mid-level, you are ahead. Versus a 7-year ML engineer at a captive, you are not.

Good is relative. Percentile is not. If you only remember one thing: ₹20 LPA is “comfortable generalist / strong mid-level,” not “I have won the market.”
