₹3.5 LPA or ₹21 LPA? The 2026 Fresher Split Is Brutal.

Standard IT campus bands barely moved. A tiny specialist track did. Here is how to read both.

Two fresher offers can share a company logo and still be different careers.

The standard Indian IT campus band in 2026 is still roughly ₹3.5–7 LPA. Digital specialist / trainee tracks at the same firms often sit nearer ₹9–12 LPA. A very small specialist-programmer cohort — Infosys has publicly talked about a ₹21 LPA SP-L3 style band — is the number that travels on LinkedIn.

If you only remember the ₹21 LPA headline, you will either feel underpaid at ₹6 LPA or over-index on a track you did not get selected for.

What a “normal” 2026 fresher offer looks like

Across IT services, most graduates still land in the ₹3.5–7 LPA cash band. GCC and stronger product campus seats start higher — often ₹8–16 LPA at solid captives, and much more at a thin elite sliver.

Naukri’s August print said fresher hiring was +15% YoY, including non-metros like Coimbatore and Jaipur. Volume is healthier than 2024. Pay at the median is not suddenly FAANG.

TeamLease’s message for entry-level IT: hiring is largely stable, and the 40–45% hike talk is not for campus bands. Entry-level hikes remain in the 6–7% neighbourhood.

How to judge the offer you actually have

  1. Separate stipend, training, and confirmed CTC. Some letters look larger because the first year is a trainee construct.
  2. Ask what the specialist bar was. If you were not in that coding/AI track, do not use ₹21 LPA as your personal benchmark.
  3. Compare employer type. A ₹12 LPA GCC seat can beat a ₹7 LPA services seat on learning even before the next hike cycle (GCCs are planning ~9% vs ~6.6% at services).
  4. Look at the work. AI, cloud, and security rotations compound. Pure ticket-maintenance roles do not, even if the logo is famous.

If you are already one year in

The 2026 market is more willing to pay for a junior who has shipped something digital than for a junior who only completed training modules. A 15–25% external jump after year one is more realistic than waiting for the campus specialist band to “arrive” in your appraisal.

Run the in-hand numbers too. A ₹7 LPA CTC with PF and professional tax is a very different monthly life from the LinkedIn screenshot of ₹21 LPA.
